2004 XC90 Sunroof inoperable

Post by francisp »

Hello Everyone! I just secured an '04 XC90 with a 2.5T AWD and after checking all the fuses I am stumped. My power sunroof does not work? Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.

Sunroof is part of the rear body module's functions. Fuses are in rear panel of cargo area on left behind clip-off cover. Try resetting the battery with key in Pos II. This usually does the trick.

Thanks, I'll try that remedy. Out of curiosity, does this affect the driver side window and power mirror operation as well? I forgot to ask about those two since I discovered the sunroof's inoperability.

Just an update on the suggested remedy, I positioned the ignition key to position II and disengaged the battery from the terminals and kept it off for about a minute. This did nothing therefore sunroof still inop.

Try touching the battery leads together (with battery disconnected) while in Pos II

This will reset the modules in a more complete way. Then reconnect in Pos II again. If this fails to work you have a module problem and will need to be scanned with a Volvo scanner such as Dice with Vida software.

After several attempts and reading past postings from members with similar problems, I have surmised that it has something to do with the vehicles security system. There was a breach at some point and time that caused the sunroof to remain inop since it is considered a point of intrusion or entry. Perhaps after I have the security issues resolved, which may require further expense, then the sunroof will operate once again. I think I also need a new / refurbished driver door module.

a quick scan with Vida/Dice will tell you exactly what's up. why not start there?

The alarm has bad battery. Acid from it shorted LIN bus. Sunroof and alarm are controlled by one wire. So
as it is shorted by alarm sunroof also does not work.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)
