Can anyone tell me the difference between an 01AWD and an 01 FWD transmission?

Has anyone ever put an 01AWD transmission in an 01FWD car?

The AWD has the proper trans output shaft to attach to a bevel gear. I believe somewhere online here is how to change a AWD trans into a FWD both with ( removing center shaft) and without (removing bevel gear. In regards to the programming differences I am not aware of what the differences are. I know this worked for the pre 01 cars but do not know if the 01 and newer can be adapted without changing the output shaft in the trans.

Yes- trouble with trans as fluid seal is in the bevel gear or needs the collar to work. Looks like you need to spin a bevel gear with no center shaft to make it work.

please read this thread - should be very similar

Ok. Sounds like its not going to work. Is there a cross reference where transmission from other models will work or does it have to come from an 012001 v70 FWD?

Can't help much with that. The hollander exchange that junkyards would know or a good trans shop would.
I thought I had heard that only an 01 will work(gearing electronics etc) in an 01 but all would fit (bolt up).

Try the search engine at car-parts.com and see what comes up. No guarantees but I thought that search engine was driven by the Hollander database.

01 and 02 are the only ones you can use

I thank everyone for helping me out. :)
This transmission is strange. Start and drive it about 1 mile. Stopped, put in reverse. No reverse. Then no drive.
