2000 S80: Different wiring harnesses for side mirrors

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80: Different wiring harnesses for side mirrors

Post by christophervolvos80 »

So I went to a pick a part place to get some new old mirrors for my 2000 S80 2.9. When I bought the pair and attempted to install them I was surprised to see that the wiring harness was different and incompatible with the ones i picked up at the pick a part place. I will be going back to the place to check what year the S80 T6 was that I took the part from.

Does anyone know why they could be different and if I might be able to redo the wiring on the to make the other mirrors fit into my wiring harness set up?

If the wire color is the same and the wire count is the same just change connectors.

The wire counts are the same with a two different color wires. Not sure what would happen if I were to switch the connectors with the two different colors and install on my car? I'm only keeping them as spares for now. The S80 T6 that I took them off of was a 1999 and I have a 2000. Just not sure why Volvo would use different color wires and connectors for the same model car with only a one year variation difference.

Are the replacement mirror units equipped with power fold and your original fit are just electric angle adjust with heating, the power fold mirrors use a different (larger plug) - Mike

No it is not a power fold and nor is mine. I believe I have heated mirrors and I think the spare mirrors are also too. To be honest, how do you know if a S80 had heated mirrors? I don't have a button for heating the mirrors. I only assume that I do because when I turn on the rear glass defroster, I notice my mirrors also clear up at the same time and therefore assume that they are linked.

There are harnesses with every possible variation between 6 and 16 cables, depending on what the mirrors can do.

I had the same problem, I have an S80 from 2000 and bought a mirror from 1999. My mirror had a 16-pin green connector and the one that I bought a 10-pin grey connector. I took of the mirror glas and put in the motor of my old mirror (don't know if it's necessary), and soldered the green connector to the new mirror like this.
