1995 965 Rear suspension Non Nivomat renew

Post by h20ham »

Monroe shock absorber, does anyone know if I can use the sedan #5978 instead of #5979 for the wagon.
Will it just be a bit softer, but the same height?
I would not mind putting the AC Delco, part # 504573. But no one is selling them I can find?
I do tow a trailer sometimes but also like it to be fairly firm. Suppose the transverse leaf spring is weak after 160,000 miles. Have purchased some narrow overload springs that I would like to put air bags for towing. Don't carry a lot of weight, but the highways are uneven around here so it can get weighted down, hence the air bags.
A coilover system or the adjustable air I suspect will be great, but hoping for input.
Thanks MVS our MVP

OEMs do flip the numbers, with time, even though the same part

Examine this page on ACDELCO 53040

Notice:

1. Extended Length Collapsed Length Stroke

2. Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 504573, 88945208

Now, notice these Interchange Parts for ACDelco 53040

Scroll down the page.

Hence, there are ways to track down parts, but I known nothing here about this topic, in regards to correct fitment for your vehicle.

If this car has live rear axle (not multi-link) the KYB Gas-A-Just rear shocks that are on my 1988 765 Turbo have lasted at least 9 years. I've loaded my car down with several hundred pounds of stuff and no complaining from the shocks.

Hello
I am not able to buy rear shock absorbers for my 95 965.
I can get 94 965.
Can anyone steer me correctly?
I suspect I am goin to have to pay duty and brokerage (arrgh!) to get FCP or IPD.

Thanks MVS

What are the first two digits of your chassis code? 7 digits...third row down or right side of product plate

If fourth digit is the letter "y" then Volvo part number is 9140472, which does not show up much on Google.

That said, Look at Sachs/Shock/Strut - Rear: Part Number: 124816

Is this what your shock looks like?

Autozone said - Part Number: 124816
Warranty: Limited Lifetime
Notes: Station wagon. Except auto leveling suspension. OE replacement. Super touring. Monotube

This is best I can do...it appears at one Volvo dealership, this part number does not exist...you might call Volvo, and if no go, ask the part person to call their part support hotline.

Thanks!

I see my parts people cant find anything but the Monroe 5978 as 5979 is out of production. Part Number: 124816 from Auotzone crosses but again out of production.

Ultimately I desire an adjustable by a dial, on the side of the shock. So when I have a trailer, I can increase damping force.

kind regards

Thanks!
I am in Canada.
Hoping someone will chime in about a air adjustable and maybe a coil over.
Know I had read someone building one, but may have been sweed or another volvo site
