96 850 -P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction?

Post by Bob Real »

I have a obd code #P0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input) on my 1996 850. is this a solenoid or a internal malfunction or both? Is this repairable by a beginner? if so where is the part located? Thanks for your input.

If you read my post sometimes starts I had the same error code. Installed a new starter, PNP switch, new battery from 3 bad starters installed drained. Car works like new now. You code I believe has to do with the PNP switch ( Park , neutral safety switch.) Besides that being wrong on my car I had no lights which also indicate PNP switch. Type in PNP in search and will bring you to installation instructions also on matthewvolosite. com . Another site is the volvospeed.com Go to it and scroll down to pnp switch. It will also give instructions to install PNP switch. Good luck and let us know the outcome for fellow owners with the same problems.

Heres some information from prior post on pnp also. Good luck again and don't forget to let us knopw how it turns out..
The arrow on the dash, the having to start in neutral...all point to that switch. I'd say it's too far gone for the ratcheting to have had any effect. Still can't figure out why you don't get any codes for it.

Actually, when I looked up the code you posted- P0705. It stands for Transmission Range Sensor Circuit malfunction (PRNDL Input). When I went further and looked this up on other forums, everyone just talks about the PNP, so I'd say that it is a very good bet that this is the code for it.

Yeah, since I was quoted, I figured maybe I should pop in.
Good luck with this- definitely sounds like a PNP switch to me too.

I did quote what another had said for help on my problem. I thought giving the information again would help. I only look to help because I had the same problem a week ago. It should be mentioned that the ratcheting of the gear shift is a temporary solution for some. Eventually, the pnp switch may have to be replaced.
