Will VIDA DICE fix this?

Post by JeffHicks »

So I replaced the ignition switch on my 1999 V70. Disconnected the battery beforehand, thought I did everything right.

After the fix - which included removing the steering wheel - the SRS light stays on. I've been told that this basically means the airbags won't work.

If I were to pick up a VIDA DICE, would I be able to address this problem, or is this a fix that only a dealer can do?

My code reader can read and reset SRS codes on a 99 (though I'm guessing you are not nearby :)), so yes there are definitely some non-dealer options.

Since the battery was unhooked, it seems possible an airbag connector may be loose, eh?

I am naive about VIDA/DICE, hang in there someone will chime in ...

According to volvo manual you should wait about 10min after you disconnect battery.
Dice definitely will help. First clear error. If that won't help dice will show where the problems are.

An Autel EU 702 also does a great job on SRS modules on Volvos. Of course a Vida/Dice can read and reset all types of module codes.

Only issue is that it can be dash or steering airbag connector related or seat airbag related. You really don't know what you're dealing with until you read the car.

On my 2000 V70 I had a corrosion problem on the driver's seat airbag connector and it wouldn't clear until I had unplugged and replugged the seat airbag to clean off the corrosion.

That's the code reader I have. I concur, works great.

Cool - thanks guys!

I suppose it's possible that I didn't get the steering wheel airbag connection snug - though I did pay careful attention to it.

I'll disconnect my negative battery cable again and let it set, for the remote possibility that that might help. I'll probably also double-check the connections. Beyond that, we'll see.

Thanks again.

Maybe you are aware of this but keep in mind the code won't go away though, even if you fix any un-snug connections. Now that the code is set, it must be cleared.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

I have an Innova 3100 Scanner. Nothing awesome, just basic. It can clear codes, but it does nothing with this one - unless there's some magic that I haven't yet figure out.

So long as the problem is corrected VIDA/DICE will clear the code. A standard code scanner won't clear non powertrain codes unless it has a special software package.

Most code scanners do not clear SRS codes, but the Autel does. But yes, you can cobble together a VIDA/DICE for cheaper if you have an old laptop already.
