2005 v70 headlight bulb trouble MVSOLVED

Post by abscate »

With SWBO on the road today, last night the " low beam headlight out" message popped up

I slipped out and got two H11 bulbs from Advance and....

90 minutes later I still couldn't get the bulb out

I popped the rubber cap
Removed the ECU housing to better access, but still could only see the bulb with a mirror.

It didn't help that my owners manual says to release a bayonet spring which I don't see.

Over to the driver side, twist and it pops out in 5 seconds.

:?: :?: :?:

Back to passenger side.

Looking through the headlight lens, there are three tangs which lock the bulb in at 120 degree spacing so and the larger tang obviously indexes the bulb to socket. Looking closer , there is an extra piece of metal on the passenger side socket preventing the larger tang from releasing that isn't on the driver side.

I may have to take off the whole headlight assembly...can someone with Vida post that?

I'm away for a few days , anyone got experience here

Yes it does.
You should be able to somehow get that bulb out as it's a clean, no rust wagon.
I'll talk to my guy later and hear what he suggests

Thanks Jim...I thought I was doing something stupid until I popped the other one in 3 seconds.
Its tight in there, but doable. Im an ex-aircooled VW guy, so "tight" on these cars is easy for me....

Well, I got the old bulb out, finally.

Sure enough, there was an extra strip of metal on the socket that precluded the new bulb going in. Once I removed it (three bends back and forth and it snapped off) the new bulb went in and snapped in as designed.

Replacing a headlight bulb turned into a two day, 4 hour total job.

...but Victory is ours...
