silly (but important!) cabin question for 89 740 turbo

Post by ian11 »

Just bought a used Volvo 740 turbo that I am really happy with, but as I got in the car for my first morning commute, I realized (with a little bit of actual horror) that there are no cup holders! Now, a morning commute without a safe place to put a hot cup of coffee can be a dangerous thing, but I haven't seen any third party cup holders for sale that look like they would fit the cabin contours of the car. The only ones that would work would be the ones that mount directly to the air vents of the vehicle, which seem (and look) pretty hokey.

Any suggestions for types of cup holders that would compliment a 1989 740? Maybe there's a better place to go look than Schucks Auto Supply...

Thanks.

that's exactly what i was looking for. Thanks. nice to know you're in Seattle...That's where I am too. One of my main reasons for getting an older Volvo was just seeing how many are on the roads around here. Seemed like a good community for advice, used parts, etc...

Thanks again!

Hi Ian

Maybe you should ask your Volvo-dealer. In Sweden, were I live, it has been possible to buy a new replacement armrest for the box between the front seats. In this armrest you can slide out cupholders for the front seats and back seat.

Look at www.volvoworld.com and you will find an original armrest with cup holder. You will also find a picture of it.

My Armrest has been twisted off several years ago during a break-in (they were after an analogue car phone unit....). We never got a replacement hand rest because the hinges are so severely twisted. Now I assume these new armrests with cupholders fasten onto the existing hinges? I may not be a candidate for this..
