Depends on your driving type and the type of roads you travel on. OEM Sachs is the closest feeling to when the car was new however if you're a demanding driver who likes a good fang on twisty roads you may want to try a set of adjustable Konis.

I very much dislike my Koni Sports for so many reasons and most of them are related to the dampening.

Please don't misquote me by editing. I wrote KONIS because I tried Bistein tourings and found them harsh.

I opted to change that word and highlight it to express I had changed one point, as I otherwise agree with your post. In otherwords, I was being lazy and did not want to rant about struts.
By touring do you mean B4? If so, those are typically much softer than the struts I was suggesting.
I would suggest B6 if stock ride height, and B8 if lowering.
Konis can work, but they are often mismatched corner to corner, and the adjustment range is pretty useless. Full soft is too soft for stock springs, full hard is too much rebound compared to compression. They also do not produce consistent values when turning to the same position. This is further complicated because they do not adjust the same when adjusting CW or CCW.
You also have to reuse your 10+ year old strut housings and put the poorly painted Koni inserts inside.
Another alternative is the Sachs Advantage and the Boge Turbo. They are the slightly sportier version of their product lines and are likely still very comfortable.
Another option for comfort would be Koni FSD. From the reviews, they do seem to have some issues with controlling lowering springs or specifically demanding situations.

you can clean it, but why bother
get some new vacuum hose and replace it
hose shape doesn't matter...vacuum doesn't care, as long as there is a tight seal
if the hose needs cleaning, maybe you should replace entire PCV system?
complete kits are available
also, I replaced struts with Sachs...no regrets
