Re: 01Volvo V70 XC Transmission fluid fluctuates
Basically the oil level reading on dipstick may vary due to oil temperature, car being on flat surface, etc. So long as you're in the cross hatched are you're okay. The other thing to keep an eye on is coolant level in the overflow tank on the left. If coolant goes low make sure tranny oil level is good and oil does not look soapy. Volvo radiators seem to suffer from rupture issues.

Thanks guys!
I just got my new Servo cover in the mail and it is the new up-grade cover (guaranteed.)
I am going to attempt to install the new Servo cover tomorrow and it did come with specific directions. I am also going to drain the trans again and refill, and will take your advise,"not to use the Seafoam."
After all this, I will try and find an independent shop to check to verify if the TCM has the latest firmware version upgrades.
I still suspect that my trans fluid is over filled and will take some out before driving, because I would rather it be under filled, then over filled. I will drive it for 30 minutes and let it cool down for 30 minutes, park on level ground and check the level with the stick curved down.
It is the independent shop that makes me nervous! Because when I took it to JR's Volvo in Louisville Ky. The mechanic told me that I need a new trans, but after I paid $650.00 for a new timing belt and water pump. When I took it to the shop it was just slipping a bit from 2nd to 3rd and when I drove home it was shifting horribly in every gear! He over filled the transmission fluid to way above the hot! After I drained that out, it then went back to sifting better, but still slipping from 2nd to 3rd.Can you guys recommend a qualified mechanic in Bedford Indiana, Bloomington or Louisville Ky, but not JR"S Volvo?
I will let you guys know how it all goes, again thank you and wish me luck!

Ideally it would be better to reset the fluid counter after 3-4 drain and fills.
Also after B4 cover best to reset adaptives and do the drive cycle as you'll notice that shifting may be worse after a new servo cover.
Vida is also needed for this.
Fluid temp must be over the set limit to begin the cycle (when the limit is reached in drive cycle mode the info display will say FLUID TEMP HIGH)
The drive cycle begins with 1,400rpm shifts in 1, 2 & 3 and 4 followed by down shift by coasting to stop.
Next is a 1,800rpm cycle with shifts of 1, 2, 3 & 4 then again coasting to stop.
Finally a 2,500rpm cycle with ALL gears including 5th being reached followed by coasting to a stop.
The aim is to find a VERY flat unoccupied peace of road in order to avoid the tailgaters. When an ideal upshift is reached a warning hazard triangle will flash momentarily in the display. The trick is to get one warning hazard flash for each shift in each rev range including downshifts which you only need one set of from 80km/h to rest.

For the transmission oil, you can try the Valvoline Max Life Transmission oil (at Walmart), some people seem to say it works a little better, and is cheaper than the Mobil 3309 or Toyota T-IV oils.Penny0322 wrote:Thanks guys!
