I think I'm on the verge of a problem. I'm replacing the fuel pump on my 1998 volvo v70xc. There was a lot of rust on and around the connectors. I doused both connectors with PB Blaster and using a pair of bent needle nose pliers I was able to lift the plastic connector and remove the line on the passenger side of the car.... With other line the plastic connector broke up when I lifted it... The connector will not pull away and there is nothing left to release it with .. What are my options here I don't believe I can replace just the connector... If I cut it off, where does the line on the left (drivers side) go to? Can you buy a replacement? Thanks

Just figured I would close this post: I solved the problem by breaking off the nipple from the fuel pump assembly (what the heck, it needed to be replaced). I was then able to remove the broken nipple from the fuel line with a fuel line disconnect tool

The fuel pump was replaced and the car started... after a few seconds, started to smell gas. One of the connectors was spraying gas at the elbow through several pin holes caused buy rust. I disconnected the connector, I worked the metal connector from the nylon hose and replaced it with a Dorman 90 degree 5/16" nylon to metal fuel line connector. I secured it to the Nylon hose with same "Seal It" and a hose clamp.

Before closing up the hole in the floor, I drove around foe a few day to make sure that the repair was leak free... It's been about 1000 miles and so far so good....

Thanks for closing the loop. I''m surprised that no one answered your original post. Even if no one has a great answer someone normally will at least commiserate with you. You are not the first person to have the original problem with the plastic release tab breaking and I'm sure that you won't be the last either.

On the FWD cars about 90% + of the time people try to reuse the housing but on the AWD pumps it is difficult to find a replacement cartridge so most of the time the entire assembly gets replaced. Snapping off the nipple is no big deal since that assembly is going to get tossed anyway.

What clever method id you use to break off the nipple? Things are very tight on the top of the pump.

Hi Lee... No problem. Hopefully it will help someone else. To break he nipple off I just gripped as far down as I could on the connector and nipple with a pair of channellock pliers and then slowly rocked them back and forth until it snapped off.
