New Code P0133

Post by rspi »

So today I get a CEL and the code is P0133. My gas mileage has dropped over the past 2 months so my guess is that my front o2 sensor is bad. What is the normal process to get this taken care of? Do I check for vac leaks first or just change the sensor?

This is a super old thread. Like many a question is asked but the final come is never reported.
As posted above, it is a leak. Took me about 8 months to finally get rid of this code. Reported above I thought i had it fixed with a leaking injector. No it came back. I changed my o2 with super cheap

As i was saying, I replaced the O2 and save the old one. I found my leak by mistake. I was seafoaming the intake and saw smoke from under the heat shield for the turbo. An exhaust leak! So months later I seafoamed again with heat shield removed and saw smoke from the turbo to down pipe. I tightened the bolts but that wasn't the leak causing the code. I noticed that 2 of the four nuts were missing from the turbo to manifold flange. Went to dealer and they wanted $12 for 1 nut. I said no thanks. Went to lows
they had exhaust lock nuts and straight nuts. I bought 4 of each. I ended up using the straight thread , because it was easier to start, and I was worried about the stud. The two bottom nuts were missing. Adding the nuts and tighened all others. I got rid of the 0133 codes.

Looking for exhaust leak using seaform in the intake, totally clogged both o2 sensors with new codes.
I put my old front o2 back in because it was clean. Just cleaned the gunk from the second O2. I didn't even unplug the second o2. Just twisted the cable to remove and then install. Had to get o2 socket from auto store loan. The front o2 i got out with a open end wrench.

Very helpful.
Two questions:
*You pulled the air box hose off and Seafoamed at the intake?
*Did you ever hear any exhauset noise that didn't seem normal (and/or, is your exhaust quieter now)?

Thanks, because I have a Never-Say-Die P0133, and no others ever. Driving me nuts, and inspection is looming.

I did have a slight exhuast leak noise before. I have been 4 to 6 months "p0133" free. But it just came back. I'm thinking (hoping) the two exhuast nuts I replaced have loosened up. I used straight nuts and not lock nuts. They were hard to get started and I was worried about the studs.

I seaformed thur the intake manifold at the vacuum port tree. I saw smoke from Turbo to down pipe. But I believe the problem leak was ex manifold to turbo. Two of four nuts were missing.

I plan to pull heat shield and check bolts, or I think I can get a good look from below.

Just checked for exhaust leak. Put the front on ramps and could easily see turbo flanges. All looks good. A little background: Was "check eng free" for a while. Then got P0440 "large evap leak". I had this when i got the car a year ago. Just checked old repair (hose near gas tank) and it's ok. Hose to purge valve old and should be replaced. Cleaned up filler neck with 400 grit sandpaper. Oiled gas cap.
Reset and see if comes back. After 600 mile highway trip. (80 mph for 300miles) slower coming back. Check codes and get p0136 and p0133 with p0440. Will reset and see what comes back.

Freeze data for P0133; closed loop, 194F, -0.8%, 110 KMPH, 68.4MPH 9% load, -5.5% B1 ST 2400RPM

O2 background. Replaced front O2 with $30. plug and play. (no change in code). After seaforming engine aggressively I fouled O2 sensor and replaced with original (which I saved). I also fouled O2 sensor # 2 and cleaned and reinstalled. So I have two O2 senosor with unknown miles. I do have a OBDII reader that lets me see there response (voltage).

The p0136 I'm thinking bad connection or short before bad O2. (low volts senson 2)
