Strong Gas odor from under hood of '96 960

I have a '96 960 with an inline 6 cyl engine. It is startingextremely hard in the am and has a strong gas odor eminating from the engine compartment. ANy ideas?

Check your fuel line under the hood for leaks. Leaking fuel line will cause lack of pressure to the carb and keep your engine from starting. Just a thought...but honestly I know nothing about your model Volvo.
