I wondered this myself since both inlet and outlet are at the bottom, but I don't know the internal routing. I'm going to install a new cabin filter, but I doubt it will make much difference.cn90 wrote:I guess the heating system "self bleeds" after the heater core job?
In other words, are there any air pockets in the heater core?

After dealing with all the related areas over this last summer, I had also found a broken actuator lever at the recirculation flap to cabin.
I have installed said heater core.
The recirculation system check at the ECC will not throw a code when the plastic lever severs at the motor. It can still find its home calibration point.
Leaving outside air would alter the cooling to the cabin.
The door to that intake does not always fail in the closed position. (In my experience)
Just another thought, not necessarily related to the heat issue, although causing deceptive diagnostics.
Plastics and polymers seem to be most of the issues. Wire casings,(don't get me started).
I see complaints from the south. Your blood is getting thin. Ha.
It was 17 degrees this morning here and I've had to dial the heat down from last years winter settings as to not sweat.
I have not had any problems with that heater core aside from the initial smell, which went away after a few weeks. I did not wash it before installation as was suggested by other members, for lack of time.

Ben, looking at your pic of the new core helps determine the circulation. Don't know which is inlet or which is outlet, but by their position and the appearance of an internal divider (horizontal light streak), one would conclude the coolant flows up one face of the core and back down the other. Thanks.
True, I might have a door actuator problem. I believe there are some ghetto fixes for this issue in the data base. For the time being, winter is short down here, albeit our blood is very thin, plus the car went up on stands today for replacement of control arms, CV boots, and tie rods. Prior to, I broke my dad's 40 y.o. Craftsman breaker bar with the cheater on it trying to loosen the spindle nut. Harbor Freight 24" breaker and six foot pipe turned that sucker to loosen. Mercy. The Lisle 36mm axle socket should have a 3/4" drive fitting.

I also have purchased the estonian ebay core. It has been in the car, working and not leaking for over 1.5 years now. I cut the pipes and used normal heater hose through the firewall instead of using the puzzle piece pipes and fittings. Car was in SoCal past few years, and recently got thrown into the midwest (10-15*f weather past few mornings), and it heats well. If your car is NA, *make sure * your airbox thermostat is working properly so car heats up better.

Thanks, mika. I did have the airbox mod in place over the summer, but returned it to near normal (manifold heat) flow for winter. The temp gauge reaches the 3 o'clock position without undue delay. From all the satisfied users reporting here, I think the ebay core is probably fine and I have another issue involved.

I installed a new Behr a few years ago but the foam seal left a small gap and the heat output was seemingly terrible due to the cold air getting around the core rather than through the core.

Ahh, thats what the foam seal was for !

My eBay core is nice and hot, but does still have a little odor after 10 months. Make sure the MIX air vent is closed.
