2000, S70, GLT SE, Rough Idle - Initial Start Up

Post by Rbaratt »

I have been having an issue with my S70 during initial start up. Recently I have been having intermittent rough idle at start up. Wasn't happening all the time and it would resolve itself in 30 seconds or less and then re-start fine the rest of the day. The problem would seem to occur after the vehicle would sit for a while. Many days it would start fine in the morning and the problem would occur in the evening when leaving work. I have attached a quick video to see if anyone else has experienced this. As of yet, no codes or CEL.

I'll have to try to attach another video clip later. I didn't realize .mov extensions were not allowed. The video basically shows the engine stumbling and then clears up and runs normally.

Check the fuel pressure at the rail (there's a blue cap at the throttle body side of the fuel rail) after turning the key to position II but before starting the engine.

I have the same problem. V70 2000 runs fine and then some days the car will die. Sometime their is fuel in the fuel rail and some time no fuel. I wait 30 seconds or so and car will start and run fine. Any suggestions?

Do you hear the fuel pump run every time the key is turned to position II before starting? Make a habit the next few days of turning the key there first, listening, then turning to start.

If you hear the fuel pump sometimes, but not others, replace the fuel pump relay and see if it solves your problem.
