My car has developed a fault, that is it's hard to start, I have noticed that the glow plug warning light only shows for 1 or 2 seconds, I think I should replace the glow plug relay first to see if that extends the time the glow plugs run for, if that doesn't resolve the problem then after that I would look to replace the glow plugs. However I have been told that the battery could be the source of the problem and as the one fitted is still the original battery supplied when delivered new.
My car now shows 116k miles and is 9years old. Any body have any thoughts please.

Absolutely no experience with diesels, however.. I'd think the length of time glow plugs ... glow is determined by a timer relay... so you seem on the right track. The battery being original is rare but, if it still cranks okay why mess with perfection? If the glow plugs still glow, which can be checked by taken them out and apply 12v to them, why change? Sounds like a relay.

UK forums are full of D5, http://volvoforums.org.uk/ is worth a look
The D5 was never imported to North America (sadly)
One trick is try boosting from another car. If it starts right away, then the battery can be a bit tired.
