If I said that just a bit would come out before, I apologize - I had drained the radiator and engine block prior to removing mine, so there was not much left in the system. Hopefully you were prepared with your trash bag ;)
J,

You never said that!!! It was not you that made that statement, it was someone else in past posts. I did not mean to imply that you said it. I apologize if it was taken that way. Your advice has always been spot on in my book.

I replaced the heater core in my 98 V70 a year ago with a German made unit I bought from Ebay. It no longer smells like anti freeze but worse - more like some chemical perhaps sprayed on the heater core during manufacture to protect the unit from corrosion. I can't describe the smell but its horrible and I hope its not toxic. I know its not anti freeze because I haven't had to add any since I swapped the leaking unit out over a year ago. Anyone had a similar issue ? Its a German made unit but I don't remember the name of the manufacturer.

Happened to mine too. Went away after a couple of months.

I'm surprised people are starting new threads on this when there are so many searchable topics on the same subject.

Also searchable threads on which heater cores to buy and won't crack or explode after 12 months.....

Now I remember I bought it on Ebay from a aftermarket parts seller called Deutscheparts USA. Any body else had this issue with a heater core ? I'm worried that the odor may be toxic.
