V/S 70 Headlight switch bulbs

Post by scot850 »

Hi guys,

Old Stupid here decided to replace the blown bulbs in the headlight switch while building up enthusiasm to take the rear sub-frame out of my V70 R. Unusually for me, I for some reason took both bulbs out and now not sure which one goes in which hole. There is a long stemmed bulb holder and a short one. Does anyone know which goes where?

Second question, at the top of the switch picture posted below is a slider switch with 3 positions marked A,B,C. What is the purpose of the switch and which position (if critical) should it be in?

Thanks,

Neil

The ABC letters are just indicators for what position the front screw is in. If you turn the front DRL Screw, it will change the position of the indicator on the back.

As noted by cn90, the position of the screw slot correlates with the position of the slider. As for what the switch/screw actually does: it controls how the daytime running lights (DRL) are configured, whether the dash, headlights, and parking lights are on when the switch is in different positions. I've never messed with it so I don't know the various positions, you could check it out if you're feeling curious. I have read that switches originally destined for different countries may be configured differently. :)

Thanks guys. Only question not answered is which bulb goes in which slot. In the picture you show of the rear of the switch cn90, is the white bulb the long one and the grey one the short one?

Interesting about the different positions of the A,B and C. I'd give it a go, but strangely, the switch I have there is no screw on the front. There is just a small round blank there!

I believe the picture orientation is correct, and the grey holder is the shorter one. Daytime running lights are mandatory in Canada and that is why you do not have the screw option.

I lived in Canada in the 1980s and 1990s.

In Canada, they passed DRL law back in the 1990s based one some flawed study that says even at noon, car with headlight on is unlikely to hit a pedestrian b/c even during day time, a pedestrian sees a car with HL on better than car with HL off.

Fast forward to 2014, the invention of smart phones makes this a moot point, people glue their eyes to their smart phone, so DRL or not, it is irrelevant. People cross the streets with their eyes gluing to their smart phones. I have seen people killed this way (not paying attention to distracted driver).

So, you Canadian driver does not have a choice as to the small DRL screw.

Thanks for the education guys! I thought the bulbs were in that order, but great to have it confirmed.
