1998 V70 XC Cross Country White

Post by Ben850 »

So, another white one has found me.
This will be the intro to my first AWD vehicle. It has some issues for sure.

That is usually how I come into possession of my cars.
I will be sure to detail the said issues as I deal with them.

It is in great shape interior and exterior. The sellers photos here to begin the thread.

So there is a stalling issue that I think I will figure out tomorrow.
The previous owner had said she topped off the tank completely when gas prices went down.
Shortly thereafter, the fuel gauge stopped working, There were stalling issues. Pops and jumps on acceleration. These indicate fuel starvation intermittent, but I know these do not work on recirculating fuel pressure.
The regulator on the fuel rail has no vacuum attachment.
Saddle tanks are also an issue having two fuel pickups.
Finally, the float had been sent to a place it has likely never been.
I'll figure it out.
Washed the wheels today while putting the hose on the spool for the winter.

That being said, I will open the hood tomorrow. Weather permitting.

It is not under cover yet. I have a vehicle tent coming from a friend that does not want it.
The plan is to set it up in the back yard.
I have stabile electric heaters if it gets unbearable.

Point being, there is a good chance to fix the issues in short time and enjoy this as another winter driver alternative.
As I may quote another forum member from a recent post, " Go big, or go home. "

So, I had picked up a few things at the pull yard that could apply to any of my cars. I m thinking of making the LPT into an HPT by way of a '98 T5 ECU and 16t compressor.

As I mentioned in another post, if I blow it up, it was just meant to be. I will have to fix it. Again.
I want to look up the original mapping.

I have plenty of downers and booze, but nothing that will help white car OCD/hoarding. Since I hoard cars myself I don't see that as an issue. The only issue I have is a woman that complains. I have enough room left for about a dozen cars.

I really do like your community Matt. It seems to be a very pleasant area.
My yard might be able to handle a few more cars.
I am really trying to curb the hoarding.

I may have to get another storage unit already.

The new location for the XC will be fortunate for the work I would like to do.

Since installing the '98 T-5 ECU and the MAF cleaning, The car continues to fire up, Idle, and continue to run without fault.

Unfortunately, there is a radiator drip.

There were a few very cold days here in MI over the winter, I had expected to find issues.

The battery held charge. No parasitic draw to be found.

I think I may enjoy this one for myself as well.

New radiator coming. PCV system to be done as the others.

I will likely do the 3" throttle body, and N/A manifold install. I have the parts, so why not.

It will need a bit more attention when I look closer, but I expect this one to be another fun one.
They will all get their turn now.

I really have not touched the XC since I bought it, Aside from the T-5 computer and MAF. This has the car running without stalling.

Last winter had a few days way below zero and a radiator tank sprung a leak.
We had an extremely cold snap last winter.

I pulled it from storage yesterday and installed anew radiator. No photos of the install, but I was able to drive it home from storage to join my other white ones in the drive.

It needs the center bearing in the rear prop shaft. It bangs on hard acceleration. Otherwise id drives like a true luxury car.
The brakes and tires are new from the previous owner. It needs a battery though. It is not holding a charge.
It will need plugs, wires cap and rotor. It is missing a bit.

Went to my storage unit today to get some parts.

Since I will have the manifold off, I will go ahead with the 3" N/A throttle body and manifold with the 960 throttle plate.
I have already ordered, and received the Snabb 3" intake turbo to throttle body conversion tubing.
This was the one for the '96 wagon project. I have just received the same one.

I brought home ah N/A manifold I had picked up last year before I bought the XC. Also my box of throttle bodies. I have enough to make two of the modified type. I will throw one on my '94 black N/a wagon when I get to that.
box of throttle bodies again.

I have already put T-5 ECU in, which automatically deletes the SAS and maps for higher boost. I also have the 16t from the '98 T-5 but that will happen later.
It will be cod soon, and I am working much.

When time allows.
