92 960 blinking up arrow, dead speedo. Searched

So the tcm is showing the 2-3-2 code, for missing signal from speed sensor. Does this refer to the sensor on the rear axle or the sensor on the side of the trans??

I have looked that over a bit. If I understand correctly, 311 refers to trans speed sensor, and 232 is differential speed sensor? I would like to get this right the first time, i don't want to go replacing incorrect sensors

Can anybody better explain the use of a feeler gauge on the rear end speed sensor? I am wondering if the shop replaced te sensor but didn't shim is properly

From what I have seen of the gauge cluster and speedo itself, it should be functional so long as it has signal. However, the speedo is not working. That is the root of the issue, and I am trying to figure out how to correct it. I am also trying to make sure I am understanding the advice offered. I appreciate any patience you can spare, and concise, detailed responses. I think I am very close to having this all sorted out.

The Bentley Volvo 240 Service Manual (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993) explains it.

I had this problem on my 1993 960. I had to replace the switch on the transmission, the push button switch near the shifter and the speedometer. All were defective. I don't remember where I found the information, but I was able to test the operation of the sensor in the differential with a meter. The wires are located under the floor in a wagon, near the spare tire on the left side. I may have gotten advice from my nephew who is a technician at a major Volvo dealership. I don't remember anything about a speed sensor at the transmission. This repaired the speedo and allowed the transmission to shift properly.
