It is fun to do it correctly.
Sachs-Boge, or Bilstein Touring struts for both of my 850s with upgraded spring seats. IPD-HD and XC-90 OEM Volvo respectively.
A fun summer day photo.
This would be Sachs-Boge with IPD-Hd seats.
The strut mount bearings were not really the issue on either of those renewals, but I did use newer, and OEM pieces for the strut rebuild on the Wagon.
The good parts are pricey, but you do get what you pay for in this area.

Nice work! I took the car to a different garage today, a guy who I went to previously for MOT's but he doesn't do timing belts (which I got done at the same time as the MOT) so used a different garage this time (which I regret). Anyhow he looked at the mount for me, used a pry bar and showed me why its moving and why sometimes it sits flush but its still fairly tight but the mount with the bearing needs to be replaced.
I think i'll just get hold of the parts and then decide if I'll give the job a crack myself as long as I can get the right tools, like a spring compressor, just depends on weather as I've no garage! Otherwise I'll get him to fit all the parts for me.

Just to update this as I went ahead and installed new Coil Springs (Sachs), Shocks (Meyle), Upper Mounts (Firstline which are a quality British brand) and Spring seats (Febi Variant 2) and what a difference. The car feels like I'm driving it as it was new out of the factory and after having it for 3 years, it gets better to drive each year.
The spring seats where TOAST! completely wrecked and it turns out the struts had a longer thread then the ones just installed so it looks like incorrect struts where used before.

Nice work, enjoy the new suspension!
Yeah, this is essentially the rule for aftermarket spring seats. 20-30k max then they are gone.JRev wrote: ... The spring seats where TOAST! completely wrecked ...

This is my first car mate and unfortunately when I first went about getting parts I wasn't really clued up on who to use and it turns out the spring seats where scantech! Which I now know to avoid!erikv11 wrote:Nice work, enjoy the new suspension!

I went for the Febi ones which I know are aftermarket but they are the variant 2 and as far as I can tell are the new design and OEM, but whatever at least they are a good quality name. No more scantech or professional parts sweden!

Oh sorry: yes the Febis might be fine, I agree, didn't mean to imply otherwise. Enjoy!
