S70 Key Fob Remote Battery Replacement?

Post by bkochu »

Can anybody tell me how to change the battery on the remote? It looks like it just pops open with a coin inserted into the slot at the bottom, but I don't want to break the darn thing....

Thanks!

Yes, a coin and twist...you won't break it...I do it all the time.

For what it's worth, they can be very "sticky" - mine, for instance, still won't open, and I've been trying off-and-on for a week now. It will twist to the left so that the marks line up, it just won't release. I figure it's not worth "forcing" - what I've been doing is when I have a few dead minutes with my keys and a quarter, I just rotate the access plate back and forth a few times - every time I try it, it seems easier. I suspect it will eventually open for me before the battery fails completely. And if not, on my 850, turning the key in the driver's side lock unlocks everything anyway, so that works too.
:D

Unfortunately, it appears that after '98, if you get a new fob, you have to go to the dealer for programming.

Good luck!

On a '98 you have to take the remote to the dealer for programming too...ask me how I know. However, it's apparently not very difficult- doesn't require a software download like it does on '99 and newer.
