2000 s80 t6 transmission won't engage
2000 s80 t6 transmission won't engage
2000 s80 t6 140k miles engine runs great but transmission acts as of it is in neutral. sequential shift and reverse don't work. If you shut off the car and restart it, it will drive for ten feet then act as if the car has been shifted into neutral.

Hello,
In terms of some easy things to look at, I'd check the transmission fluid level first and see if the fluid colour is OK and if it smells burnt.
Can you manually shift to 3rd gear and drive forward?
Also, have a look at the transmission wiring connectors mentioned in this post:

Cheers,

I have a 2000 s80 t6. I drive it all the time. However I did have to put a new transmission in it right after I bought it for doing exactly what you have described. When it first started acting up I changed the fluid and filter and that got another 2000 miles out of it but it was only a temporary fix. You are right at the expected life of that transmission in a T6.

An update on my issue: I was able to manually shift into 3rd and the car drove. I then put it into reverse and was able to back up then it moved forward normally in drive. Then I backed it up for half a block, drive didn't work but i put it back in third and it drove back to my driveway. The fluid looks and smells brand new and the level is perfect. I checked the wiring coming out of the trans under the air cleaner and it all looks ok. The conduit of course crumbles at a touch but I don't see any obvious issues without taking it all apart and tracing it.

With the wiring connectors, it might be worthwhile disconnecting them (one at a time) and reconnecting them. This is in case there's a dodgy connection causing issues (power to the solenoids in the transmission).
The only other thing I can think of is the forward band has broken (this went with a bang on my transmission so I knew something had happened). This meant I had no drive except 3rd and reverse.
When I drained the fluid, the end of the band was in the transmission pan.

You could contact Dave at TripleEdgePerformance who might be able to provide a better diagnosis. He specialises in these transmissions and I got all the parts I needed for the rebuild from him.
