1995 850 Wgn Short in fuse 15 HELP!

Post by norbert »

For Christmas this year I got a present from the Grinch.
I found my alarm light flashing rapidly and could not get in with the remote.
I broke in with a hanger and the ignition kill was initiated. (flashing lights and no start)
I might have made a mistake here, forgive my ignorance, but then I disconnected the battery to reset everything.
From that point on, NO LIGHT at all and when I try to change fuse 15 it blows right away. My understanding of that is that there is a short. I have no idea how to fix.
Can someone walk me through their steps? I mean I could get wiring diagrams but I need a little hand holding. (I have no experience with electrical work) I tried to take the fuse box out but the after the screws were removed, I could not see how to get it out without the danger of breaking it. IN the best case I guess it would be the connection right to the box, right?
Lest you should think me a pathetic sissy, I am single woman on a strict budget. Please help, I have fixed other things before with great success.

norbert. I bought a 1997 850 wagon for my daughter. She was stranded a couple of times due to the alarm system. The folks here explained how to pull the relay, and with a simple jumper between two ports you can by pass the whole security system and be done with it. I've never been too worried about security for my 20 year old Volvo.

Since doing this I have had zero problems. I don't know if this will solve your fuse 15 problem, but I would start there, as I had nothing but headaches with the security system. At least this is easy and cheap and will take the security system out of your equation, which might fix it. if not, maybe someone else knows how fuse 15 fits into your situation.

Rick
'Thank you. That would be helpful if I wanted to bypass the remote, but I would like it to work and the interior lights as well.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Ok, let's not take out the fuse box yet.

Check your manual for fuse 15, I think it is for courtesy lights, OBD and door warning light.

You almost certainly have a loose wire in the door shorting to ground, which blows the fuse, and also is inhibiting your alarm system. The alarm system uses the same switches to sense a door open condition.

If you only use the driver door for the most part, that is the place to look. Search for some links here on door switch or courtesy light for your model. There are some differences over the years so be careful about that,

Yes, fuse 15 is interior lights and remote. Driver door makes great sense since it has been opened by a locksmith recently. I will try that, thanks.
