i just bought an 92 C stat from FCP. For Vancouver Canada, although I think you might get lower temperatures there, still this is chill enough to get a higher stat.
Will install when I get it here. and let you guys know what happened.
Thanks, I was inquiring more on the temp range the sensor must be receiving when engine is warm, and where the gauge must be showing at this point.
The stat shows the temperature point where the thermostat starts opening and makes the coolant circulate towards the radiator, then, i believe, the temp increases a little bit more so the thermostat opens fully and I guess depending of the temp outside the engine would keep oscillating in a temp range... I wanted to have the sorta official number in mind in case i decide to test the temp and find out if my sensor is working OK or not.
I think I will be giving the dealer a call and ask for these numbers tomorrow.

Thermostat begins to open at: 197°F (92°C)
All temp sensors Ive delt with can be tested by pulling the sensor, put a multimeter on the two wires or posts and read resistance. Heat up the end of the sensor and the resistance should go down. An analog meter should show an nice even consistant needle movement. No jumpin of the needle. If its a 1 wire and grounds on the block. Put your black lead on the housing of the sensor. Have you looked down into the throat of the carb with the car running to see if it has fuel coming out of the carb vent. The needle could be stickin slightly causing mild flooding. Have you pulled the float to see if its sinking. Hollow floats will do this. I know it was rebuilt but that was two years ago, was it sittin up after it was put back into use or put on the shelf right after build?

The carb was installed right after it was rebuilt, then the car sat for two years.
I appreciate your advice and will try the float thing as a last resource, since I do not feel like fiddling with the carb any more. I will try pulling the temp sensor and measuring resistance while putting it in some boiling water at the stove maybe.

I read that the needle and seat are a problem with this model of carb.

yes i know about oval jets and worn out needles in these carbs. but in my case they are both theoretically new, unless the re-builder person just hosed me good, the old jet and needle came back in a ziplock with the rebuilt carb, so I trust he did the job right. + he has really good reviews from all around here, meaning North America, so they shouldn't be worn at all since there is not even 500 km on the carb since then,

Today I call a volvo dealer in my area and they couldn't tell me the temp range and got my number to call me back: never did.
They did confirm I could use anything from 87 till 92 thermostat, so I bought the right one (92) at fcp, just waiting for it to come by.
He did also say there are huge chances it been the thermostat, I an pull it out and throw it into a boiling pot of water and see how it acts. Also by just taking the hose off I could check if the spring is intact or what.
He did not have an answer about testing the sensor, like resistance numbers etc.
But he was helpful some how, maybe just forgot to call back, it happens.
