I do NOT remove the rail or the injector wires (on the na cars). I swing it a little over to the drivers side of the car, all in tack. I disconnect the fuel line that comes over the top of the motor near the timing belt cover. You only need to get the manifold out of the way enough to gain access to the box.

Awesome, that's one less step/potential complication. Thanks for the help everyone! I hadn't expected for this thread to get so big.

If you are sick with 102 fever, you should postpone the repair until you are perfectly healthy. This is a lot of physical work. Things look simple theoretically.

Well, all the parts just arrived. Upon inspecting everything, I realized that although the oil trap arrived as did the small silver hose that goes onto the block, 1271771 DID NOT show up with the kit. Given that this is the other oil trap, I assume the one that is on the car currently will not fit. I guess time to figure out how I'm going to handle that.

Call your local Volvo dealer to see if they have it in stock.
This was why I suggested that you come up with your own list of items.
These kits are not only over-priced, they either have some stuff you don't want and also don't have stuff you need.

I said the same thing:)

But hey, better this than realizing than you miss correct parts after you take the car apart.

Hopefully you have a Volvo dealer nearby. They will charge 3x for that hose at least where I am. My dealer charges 4x the price for small items like O-rings, bolts etc. When the online price is low, they apply higher multiple.

Wait, so FCP sent the package with overnight delivery but forgot to include that hose which is part of that kit.

So although they show the part in several pictures (1271771), it isn't actually listed as part of the kit, which is why they didn't ship it. I'm really losing my patience with FCP after all of this.
Anyway, I went to get the small hose at my dealer, who thankfully had it in stock (6.40, not bad at all). I asked him to check the part number for the long hose that goes from the flame trap area to the oil trap, given that there's the one that came with the kit, and another potential part (I'm in the car and don't have the numbers). He told me that the hose that came with the kit, ending in 98, was incorrect. Instead, I should have the hose that ends in 245 (something along those lines, again, I don't remember it). I angrily drove home, and upon popping the hood and pulling the fuel rail cover, realized he was wrong, and I in fact had the right part. The flame trap side of the hose currently in the car has two lines attached to it, just like the one from the kit.

FINALLY: I just picked up some hose clamps at home depot, since the screw clamps will appear to make the job easier. Other than that, I should be all good to go tomorrow morning. I'm making sure to write down any important notes tonight, and should be ready to tackle it!

Salt in the wound: and FCP wants $9.99 for 1271771.

They totally blew it. Not even including an elbow hose, unreal! So how do they get those glowing reviews on the kit;'s web pages if one key part isn't even included?? You are likely dealing with a moving target. FCP's customer service is par excellence but unfortunately it is not the first time they have screwed up a PCV kit.

This is a heartbreaking story:

A young college guy drove 1200 miles to visit his family in his Volvo 850, discovered that there was a PCV problem, was excited to fix it himself. He had a limited time to do it before having to drive 1200 miles back to his college campus. He did his research, studied the repair well, consulted many other people about the repair. We recommended him FCP Euro. He ordered a PCV kit from FCP Euro hoping that it would arrive fast so that he had enough time to perform the repair. First FCP Euro failed to ship the kit via 2-day delivery that he paid for. Second, they tried to remedy their mistake and shipped it overnight, but they DID NOT INCLUDE A KEY HOSE in the kit! This is disappointing.

I always feel that the repair research and getting correct parts for the best price is a really big deal. My experience with FCP has been pretty good with a few hiccups.

Read the story more carefully, you will see the situation is actually worse than what you describe: FCP shipped exactly the kit he paid for, they did not forget anything. They currently do not even include that hose in the kit, anyone whoever buys it would be disappointed!!! I'm guessing they will soon change/update the contents of the kit, we shall see.
