Repair manual for 98 V70 GLT

After spending 2/3rds of my recent repair bill on labor I'm looking for a good repair manual for this car. I just turned over 90,000 miles.

Can someone recommend a manual.

Most people get the Haynes manual. Do a Google search and you'll get a bunch of hits for purchasing.

I have no direct knowledge of Chiltons but Haynes is the one generally recommended.

Chiltons = Pure crap

Haynes = Less crappy than Chiltons.

There is some British to English translation required with the Haynes but it is vastly better than the Chiltons. Most US auto parts stores don't stock the Haynes for Volvos but they can usually get it within a day.

Between the Haynes and the MIJ "for free" factory manual you can fix darn near anything.

I've never had a Chiltons so can't comment on them. However, I have been using Haynes for some 25 years and have always found them to be very good, until my latest buy for the 850. I have found errors which could prove expensive if you follow the advice given. Many subjects are not covered as fully as they used to be in earlier books.

In their defence, cars are now more complex and many jobs need specialist equipment so they can't be expected to tell the DIY man how to do them.

I can foresee the day when the manual will have one page with 'Refer to a Volvo Approved Repair Centre' for every problem.
