XC90 Needs New Front Brake Rotors at 40k Miles: Normal?
Re: 2003 S60 - Destroyed Shift Module?
followed all instructions above, got everything back together, everything is working as designed except for one thing I think. When I go into manual mode, it constantly stays in the plus (+) mode, it used to be I can either push forward to upshift, and back (-) to downshift. It's in constant upshift mode when I slip into manual. Otherwise all is working properly including the gate that keeps in from going into or out of manual mode.
I am having the same shift problem as described above. Luckily, I came across this post, and today went to my dealer with only a picture of the yellow and black parts shown above. Parts guy knew immediately what they were and got me the last on-hand repair kit.
Yes, the parts come in a kit with everything needed. Here is the part number:
9463559
cost approx: $23

I have a 2005 s60 2.5T and this post depicted my exact problem with the shifter going from automatic to manual shift. I took the car to a local mechanic who removed the console to find the yellow plastic shifter part broken just like what was in this post. The local mechanic charged $180.00 which I thought was very fair for his time and parts.
This was not a fun project for my hands, although it didn't take long to complete.
-Position seats as far back as they will go.
-Remove lower console panes on each side.
-Pop out the pen holder below the Heating & Cooling controls
-The trim around the shift console needs to be carefully pried up, there are two tabs on the top to press.
-Separate the trim from the actual shift console.
-Unscrew the 4 torx screws that secure the main center console (2 below the radio, 2 below the rubber mat under the storage compartment).
-Remove the leather boot assembly for the handbrake.
-Move shifter to D and pull the front of the console up and over the shifter. Feel under the back of the console and unplug the rear power adapter. Remove the console out of the car.
-Pry the black cover on 4 sides to pop it off (you don't need to remove the shift knob, just push everything up) I used a large flat-head screwdriver and carefully pried on all sides. At some point you will need to use some force to pop it off.
-Now you more than likely see a broke yellow piece of plastic and 2 springs. Remember how the springs are placed, this is important.
-Take the forward spring out, then with a small screwdriver, pop off the black plastic peg that holds the whole assembly together. Remove the broken yellow piece and black plastic piece with spring.
-Assemble the new clips (yellow on bottom, spring in the middle, and black clip on top), then put the new plastic peg through the assembly, hold that in one hand, move the shifter to the manual mode side and press the assembly onto the plastic stud until you hear it click. You may have to rotate the upper square cover for better clearance. Yes you will scrape your hand doing this, it sucks. While pressing onto the stud, you may need to open the "jaw" of the assembly to fit around the shaft of the gear selector.
-Orient the forward spring just as you found it. The end of the spring that has the 90 degree angle on it has to fit into a small recess deep inside that locks it in place, otherwise, after you put everything back together, this will pop back out and you will have to do this all over again. After it fits flush into the recess, bend it back so that the straight part slides into the side of the black plastic clip.

He's making it very confusing. The black Rivet needs to be pulled off. That's in his pics but he don't say anything about it.
