91 240 wagon steering problem - wheel hub?

Post by rcikovic »

When driving on the road, my 240 feels like the tires are loose. Thinking it was the wheel bearings, I did a break job and repacked and checked the wheel bearings - they seemed fine. The "wheel hub" seems to have too much play. I took a short video of play in the hub:

Any help with diagnoses will be appreciated.

That's not a hub problem. That's a steering problem. Check the steering inner tie-rods and outer tie-rod ends. Check the ball joints while you're there.

Great - thanks. What should I be looking for as a problem with the tie rods?

These links are for 700/900 series Volvo cars, but they should point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the help. It was the tie rods. I replaced the control arms, bushings, inner and outer tie rods, the ball joints, and then got into other stuff while I was in there.
