94' 850 Volvo with 113, 512, 232 codes. Can you help?

Post by jasondunning »

Hi,
I've got a 94' volvo 850 wagon, non-turbo, 2.4.
I've been having problems with getting it cranked
after a -33 morning 2 months ago. I got a Mass Air
flow code and replaced that sensor and today I got it running but another code
came on and I noticed it was running sluggish. I got
a (A2) socket codes: 1-1-3, 5-1-2, 2-3-2. What should
I start to look at for a remedy to these codes?

(A2) socket codes: 1-1-3, 5-1-2, 2-3-2. What should I start to look at for a remedy to these codes?

2-3-2 long term fuel mixture too lean or rich at idle. I had a vacume leak in an elbow that caused this. ECM (computer) is getting messages that Mass Air Flow meter (MAF) is getting incorrect info, low fuel pressure, or air leakage in vacume system. Since you just replaced the MAF you need to clear the 2-3-2 code, if it comes back start troubleshooting the vacume system, fuel system and then the MAF. If you are using a K&N air filter clean the waffle grill and MAF with alcohol.

5-1-2 fuel trim at lower limit (too rich) - MAF providing incorrect info to ECM. Clear this as well.

1-1-3 short term fuel mixture too weak - more of the same.

'96 854 - died an early death with 184K miles. Killed by the front end of an LTD on a suicide mission (T-boned and both cars totaled).

is right on the money. The Fuel System on the car (Motronic 4.4) has an adaptive function. In your case if the MAF was bad, it cause the adpative to reach the trashold limit and then posted the codes.
the adapation must be reset and if not, you may experience a roug idle or other simptoms associated with fuel trim.
The best way to reset W/O the VST (Volvo System Tester) is:

-- Disconect the battery (have the radio code handy) for a few min.
-- or--
--Remove the ECU ( wait at lest 2 min with key OFF before removal)
