2000 s70 t5 smoking dipstick
Greetings. I'll keep it short. 142,000 miles. PCV system replaced 20,000 miles ago. Noticed oil leak on front of engine. Cleaned off. Drove a week, checked for leaks. Cam sprockets, T belt dry. Oil seems to run down timing belt cover onto front engine mount, and axle boot. Let engine idle and pulled oil dipstick. Smoke. PCV system is Volvo kit. Should I be looking at possible blockage in other lines that were not included in PCV kit, or has a engine seal given up ?

There are some places that can remain clogged if they weren't cleaned out real well when the PCV was serviced. The passage in the block from the oil trap down to the sump is prone to clogging up and it can be difficult to clean out without dropping the sump pan. Another place, and it is easier to inspect and clean, is the PTC valve which is on the intake snorkel down near the turbo inlet.
The oil on the front of the timing belt cover is a bit odd if the cam seals are good, I'm at a loss to come up with a source for that one unless the gasket for the CVVT valve is bad and even then I think it would show up under the timing belt cover. On a 2000 you don't have the traditional oil cooler lines that go out to the radiator and the oil cooler is on the back of the block. An oil pump seal on the front of the crankshaft is a possibility but a failure there is incredibly rare.
Are you sure it isn't power steering fluid? The power steering pump is on the front of the engine and the hose runs very close to the serpentine belt. I have had trouble with that hose actually rubbing the power steering pump pulley and it wears a hole in the line. That oil would tend to track on the front of the timing belt cover.

Thanks for the insight. Oil seems to be on the lower belt cover , firewall side. Due to a lack of daylight, I cleaned it again , so I can check for the source. I didn't think of power steering . What ever the source it may be the cause of soft front engine mount. I'll will clean PTC for sure. I'll update with results. Thanks

After checking things out , I have found that the leak seems to be high on the engine. Oil seems to be behind the engine side of Tbelt cover. The bolt that holds the Tbelt cover has oil on it. Valve cover shows leakage that would be burned off from normal engine heat. Cam sprocket near to exhaust manifold shows slight seepage . Oil seems to run from behind exhaust side sprocket , along the rear side of Tbelt cover., and puddle inside firewall side of cover over engine mount. Tbelt and sprocket are dry. I'll check PTC nipple for blockage. Input is appreciated.

CVVT valve? The valve is located on the top of the head above the exhaust cam and it is sealed to the cam cover with a gasket. Changing the gasket is very easy and, if you do it, make sure the oil passage below the valve is clean. Other than removing the valve and scraping off the old gasket there are no other adjustments required.

Have you removed the cover over the spark plugs/ignition coil? Mine was full of oil, 3 inches deep in the spark plug "tubes" under the coils. Oil cap seal helped, cleaning PCV will be final fix

I really don't recommend dip stick test,.only glove over the filler. A.broken small vacuum line can cause a smokning dip stick or bad vacuum elbow.

Greetings. Quick update. Did a quick glove test after work. Glove did fill limply. It didn't standup and hold form like the glove in the old Betty Crocker commercials (showing my age. LOL).I'll test again in the mourning with a tighter seal. No oil under plug cover, as that was my first check due to previously having a loose 10mm bolt on top of valve cover leaking. CVVT valve appears dry. I'll check for PTC nipple blockage in the mourning. Updates to follow.

Sounds like the pressure in crankcase is ok. I guess if you have to take off the TB It would make sense to do both seals on the cams.

Greetings. After much research ( I looked in the pantry. LOL). Pillsbury had the Doughboy. Betty Crocker had the four fingered glove. After completing my Honey Do's list, I was able to see that the front cam sprocket was leaking. By looking thru the holes on it with aid of a mirror, seepage was present. I assume that it leaks once the engine is at rest because the oil is not flung inside of the Tbelt cover and the sprocket is dry.
My next question is if I bring the timing marks to Top Dead Center, aligning timing marks and replace cam seal , what would be the things to be aware of? This will be pretty much a belt job with seal replacement. I'll do research on here, but any DIY insight and advice is respected.
