It was enough to give me access. You can also pull the skirt off of the fender and access the top that way as well. Good luck!

To remove the skirt, do simply pull the retainers? They don't have a threaded fastener.

I just unsnapped mine and they snapped back in with minimal effort. Be careful though, they can break.

I had found a set of the "J/U" hoses from an accident junkyard vehicle which appeared almost new. Lucky me for sure, but I had noticed that there were two zip ties holding the hard plastic hoses, which after clipping gave me plenty wiggle room to deal with the parts.

I was also able to pull the complete plastic tube through the wheel well in case I would need it.

You will need access by opening the fender skirt. The SAS pump is also a bit of a hindrance.

Thanks for the great write up!
This was definitely a useful guide to help me find the Evap leak which was throwing code P0442.

My question is when replacing Hose #20 how did you feed the hose over the wheel well (drivers Side fender skrit)? I found that this piece was pretty rigid and didn't really give much. I was able to pull it back enough to get my hands on the shut off valve. But the hose seemed to be pinched or possibly held snug by tension.

How much can the Fender skirt give? Can i really muscle it? or is there a more efficient way to fish the replacement hose into position?

Thanks,
Paddy G

Following this guide I found a cracked "U" tube on my 2000 V 70 XC above the fuel tank directly behind the fuel filter. Replacing this pipe made P0455 go away.

I replaced the OEM hard plastic tubing with generic fuel injection hose from AutoZone. Not only was I able to get a much longer length at 1.50 a foot it was much more flexible and bent very easily over the fender skirt.

Very interesting thread here...I've spent many hours attempting to extinguish the CEL with PO455. My best guess for now was a slightly leaky shut-off valve, located very close to the canister, which on my car is in the rear, on the pass. side just forward of the right side, rear wheel. The >$120 price of the valve stopped me. Better things to spend money on. I cleaned out the valve, then sprayed in silicone and it worked for about a month or so, then the dredded P0455 returned. I never dropped the tank, but did have a good look through both deck access ports. When I have to get the car inspected, I reset CEL and due to my car being a 98 and some quirk with the timers? taking time for a reset, all the flags don't need to be cleared for me to pass. Dam aggravating though! Great info here!

Paddy,
You being in Texas, hopefully your cold spell is over. The fender skirts are very forgiving and resilient when warm. They usually only may crack when they are very cold.

I got P0442 the other day, reset it and am waiting to see if it comes back (I have been getting the dreaded P0133 for years...). I presume the work in the rear is similar for a non-AWD.

In the meantime, the "Purge valve is located underneath the air duct" picture gives me the creeps: a long metal tool very close to both the positive and negative poles of the battery, yikes!!! Whenever I am under the hood, I cover the battery with a thick rag.
