Hello Everyone,
I recently bought a 1991 240. I've noticed a valve cover gasket leak near the firewall. I fully expect to find the cause to be a gunked up flame trap. My question is after I clean/change the flame trap and replace the valve cover gasket, do I need to do anything about the possible sludge build up in the motor? I've always read not to do any kind of anti sludge flush on older engines. I just want to clean what I can safely clean in order to optimize performance. Thanks.

Increased blow-by pressure can bring about leaks....also, at firewall side of head, there is a plug, and if this plug is dislodged via increase blow-by, it will cause an excessive oil leak.vcowens wrote:1991 240....valve cover gasket leak near the firewall...
Besides cleaning up flametrap, inspecting that plug, and replacing valve cover gasket, I would suggest using Pennzoil® High Mileage oil, which has Active Cleansing Agents for sludge removal.
