1993 850 Car is over heating at stop light.

Post by Roadrunner »

I was wondering if any one had this happen you? I was stopped at a stop light and then the car temp gauge started to jump up slowly but, when I started to move again the temp came down some. Thank full for cold weather kept the motor from over heating. The radiator hand heater core have been replaced. The water pump looks like it is still working from driving the car and it cools down some. If the thermostat was bad the car would just over heat. I am thinking it is the electric fan but not sure. (never had a car with one) Could it also be the temp sensor or a relay? (not sure how to test these.)
So any advice?

Check the operation of your radiator fan. It could be a blown rad relay

If you have ac you can test if radiator fans are working when you turn the ac on.

Is there enough coolant in expansion tank?
If your thermostat was stuck in closed position,it would overheat no matter if you are moving or not.

So...it can be that your cooling fans are not working or thermostat is partially stuck closed.
