1999 Volvo S80 O2 sensor (lambda sensor) low voltage?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 Volvo S80 O2 sensor (lambda sensor) low voltage?

Post by Volvo S80 »

Hi,
I have an emission system check light (code 42) I scanned the car and the dealer sad low voltage front O2 sensor. He said that I need new sensor, new one is 230 Euro and it did sound a lot to me.
I took the sensor off today and it is Denso 9454595-Volvo 3300.
I found a new one Mobiletron brand for 50 Euro and the sales guy sad that it will work on my Volvo just that i have to set the jack from the old one.

What to do, has any one tried any of those universal sensors?

That code, p0042, is for the heater circuit of the sensor. I would not replace sensor before doing testing. I'd unplug sensor and using a voltmeter check for voltage on coresponding connector pins of car harness side. If voltage is missing that's your problem. If voltage present I' d check sensor connector pins for heater resistance, same coresponding pins you checked on car harness. If no resistance or short is measured then yes, you do need a new o2 sensor. Wiring diagram needed for connector pin out.
