My belt slipped, and valves are obviously bent, so they're getting replaced. I've never done this type of work before, so I'm going to need some help. I consider myself mechanically inclined. I worked on helicopters in the army for a few years, so I know my way around a pair of pliers or two.
If anyone can refer me to a step by step procedure for this, that would be just grand.

There is an excellent guide in the P80 850 Repair database. Let us know if you can't find it.

If the pistons are OK buy a complete remaned head from Clearwater Heads.
Probably the best and cheapest way to do this job

Other than getting the valves replaced which is often done at the machine shop, or buying a rebuilt head from a place like Clearwater, the steps are all the same as in this tutorial:

My own experiences rebuilding a 98T5 engine: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... t=65172'98 V70R AWD with high mileage should I plunge?
Timing system is slightly different of course though most other things are pretty close to your 2001.
