S70 T5 Timing Belt Job OFF

Post by volvo_bruh »

I spent all night replacing my timing belt. Had to keep alligning my cam gears correctly. Buttoned everything up after I thought I had the gears and my crank aligned properly. Turned it over a few times by hand. Gets hard to turn in some spots and much easier in others. Went to start the car and nothing. Wouldn't crank. So I let it alone and tried to crank it by hand again. Checked my crank alignment again and it was off. Have I hurt my engine at all? It never started or tried to. Just made a click noise. Any advice would be appreciated.

"Just a click sound"; sounds like a weak battery. I hope your alignment is not off, otherwise you must correct that first while the battery is being charged.

Take all the spark plugs out and try turning by hand again. The hard to turn spots should be gone. I don't think you can turn the engine over by hand if the valves are hitting unless you are Schwarzenegger, so don't worry!

When you crank it by hand, try to use a break bar if you can or add a pipe to ur ratchet to get more torque. That's normal for the engine to be hard to crank half way through. LIke the previous post, take the spark plugs out and it will be much easier. If you don't hear anything you should be fine.

Get a bud with his car and connect both terminals to your battery - very careful not to touch them together or to some other metal part, install them one by one.

Be sure to have the ignition key in position II when connecting the battery.

And don't connect -ve to your battery or you could fry the electronics. Attach the -ve to an engine earth.

Looks like he is saying he tried to crank the car and it didn't crank. Wouldn't crank over or wouldn't start?
You shouldn't be able to turn the engine over by hand cranking, if the valves are hitting, but if you used the starter, it might be enough to bend a valve if not aligned right. You checked the alignment after trying to crank and it was off. Did you use the starter or hand turn the engine?
I might be reading this differently than the others.
