'98 V70 XC transmission

Post by davis »

After I owned my XC for a year or so, I started getting a shaking at cruise that I first thought was an engine miss. It turned out to be the transmission and the fix (through the dealer) was a different transmission fluid. That took care of 98% of the problem until recently. The "missing" is back, but not at any predictable time or temperature. Some days it is there and others not. Ideas?

What do you mean by missing? Is it slipping on shifts?

Matt,
It is not slipping on shifts. It happens at cruise speed. As I said, it is not the engine actually missing, just a similar sensation. It is a slight shaking, but is not accompanied by a gear change.

mmmm could they have changed the differential fluid? Early (pre-2002 or 2003) XCs had bevel gear problems -- if one wheel gets bigger/smaller than the rest there's trouble with the bevel gear because one side's always turning at a different speed.

Matt,
I check my record for the fluid check tomorrow. Tires are relatively new with less than 4000 miles. Creative thinking though. Thanks

Davis
