Do compression tests wet and dry and go from there.
Your head gasket maybe bad.

If the car ever overheated, you likely have a bad head gasket. If the test was done properly, checking for combustion gases, and it's negative, you may have a chance.

I have had actual Volvo water pumps fail with the impeller to come off. I have seen a lot of bad water pumps, most of which just leak but some do loose the impeller inside the motor.

Re Water Pump, use only Aisin (OEM) which should last some 180K or so.
Hepu is good too.

Is there a way to check the water pump without pulling it?
Also, noticed the purple hose to the check air valve(which I think is the original) was pretty much deteriorated and not really even connected anymore. Would this be the culprit? I am going to check the air pump(original) as well, I heard some whining coming from it.
Is there a way to check the relays for the pump? Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
