96 850 Opinions on the best value fuel pump?
Just to have one on hand, I'd like to buy a new fuel pump for the 855. Is Walbro still favored? Other brands that are less expensive but known reliable?

I used http://deatschwerks.com/ dw200. No fault 3 year warrant had me sold, and you can buy it directly from the factory. Volvo intake filter fits on there perfectly.

You can get a Bosch insert for $87 shipped with filters:

I like Bosch because they are quiet. Walbro I know is loud, the others mentioned here I don't know about the noise levels.

I bought one from Advance Auto Parts. I can't remember the brand name on the box but the pump was a repackaged Walbro. It wasn't horribly expensive but I needed it quick, as in that day, to get the car running again. If you have time to have one shipped it is tough to beat a Bosch for $87.00.

If you want new, then Bosch 69693.
If you just want something so you can use in a hurry, pull a fuel pump from a junk yard, which usually charges $16-$25.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I actually do have a junk yard backup, but on a long trip which I'm planning for this summer, I'll probably install a new one and carry the backup. I'll have it to use in the '93 for winter if need be. I'll probably spring for the Bosch core. With a newish fuel filter and a spare 103 relay, that should prevent any fuel related issues. Maybe I'll toss a spare FPR in the tote, just in case.
When I drove up to Toronto from Minneapolis a few years ago, I had an amazing collection of spare parts (including a new front hub) and still have them in the plastic tote that fits on the floor behind the front seat. The tool bag rides behind the front passenger seat. Fortunately, it was all smooth sailing with no repairs needed, though by the time I got back the exhaust manifold flex joint was shot, so that needed replacement.

There has been a lot of ppl with the original fuel pump on these cars with high miles. Some ppl put a small amount of oil in the gas tank to lubricate the pump on occasion
