2004 S60R rear hub bearing
2004 S60R rear hub bearing
Today I was driving started to get a low speed vibration. After a short drive I determined it to be a bad bearing as i turned the corner I got a loud bang and car felt like it shifted to neutral. I babied it home and found left rear hub bearing all but seized. There is a left rear abs mechanical failure code.My question could a bad hub bearing cause havoc on the AWD system and transmission. If not what else my I have damaged.

Inside the rear hub are the handbrake shoes, known to delaminate, get stuck and break a metal stopper inside the hub - perhaps the bang that you heard. I think there is an easy replacement option for this part, instead of replacing the whole hub.

Rear diff would isolate stuck wheel from the rest of drivetrain. I agree with oragex: check parking brake shoes. You may need a set of extra shoes springs if originals break while taking rotor out of wheel hub by force.
Thanks guys E-brake system was destroyed on left rear. Backing plate shoes rotor all ruined Hub bearing was also ruined. I'm still worried how it felt like it shifted into neutral it also felt funny on ride home going around corner also like a old 4x4 chevy truck in low range.
