I have a problem with my Volvo starting, it is the old series and the same as the 2001-2003 S40. I turn the key and no started engagement, everything works but no turns from the starter. Thing is I was 365 miles from home, a stranger in a strange land!
Lucky for me two fellows stopped by and assisted with a jumper wire to bypass the key start. they got me going as they jumped the starter solenoid with the wire to battery positive.... Made it home!!
They would not take a cent! But I thanked them whole heartedly and I was on my way! I was facing a serious problem not to mention money going out!
About the radio problem.... as the battery was in a disconnect state, the radio locked up and asked for a code. I tried a few random code to no avail and drove home in the quiet.... When I made it home, about 6 hours later, I looked up the chance of finding a code.... maybe 2422? When I tried to power up the radio it said off, nothing more and would not go into menu code at all. So out of frustration I entered several button pushes with nothing til;l I hit the AM button three times!!!! I came on and went right to the last frequency I was listening to!!! What the....??? Did I find a new entry? It is working.... Now to fix the starter no go.... Read about a open or poorly conductive positive cable....
