I have a 2004 XC90 that I just had some work completed on. I had the cam seals, water pump, Timing belt and PCV system redone. After getting it home it seems that it takes longer to start than before and after driving there is a strong fuel smell. I saw where there was a fuel pump issue (recall/ extended warranty) and i called Volvo America and the lady i spoke to said there was not a recall and the extended warranty was 10 years and I was not covered. Do you think this fuel smell is the fuel pump? or am I barking up the wrong tree. The smell seems stronger outside the drivers side and it is not coming from under the hood. Any help would be appreciated. I have put more money in this car than all of the other 4 Volvos I have owned combined. This is probably my last Volvo.

is there any check engine light on? did this happen as soon as you got the car back from repairs? it is likely that something was not put back properly and it should be checked by the shop that did the work especially if it was fine before. Take it back and tell them to check it. it should start up and run better than before, not worst.
is this the 2.5t or t6 model?

The early fuel pumps on XC90s leak around the round casting on top. They're also shared with 2003+ S60s and V70s.
One fix is to fill that round hole which is around 40mm wide with two part resin. Othwrwise it's a new fuel pump assembly.
If the PCV was done they would have released a fuel hose with a quick release connector while removing the intake manifold. It's possible that it's leaking.
