2000 volvo s70 non turbo car codes not being stored?

Hello everyone I am brand new to this site as I just purchased my volvo. The problem I am having is that when I had autozone hook my car to the scanner it powers up but says "this vehicle does not support live data" any thoughts or advice on this subject matter would be greatly appreciated. Robert

Every obdII car supports live data.Scanner can be the one which don't support it.Maybe there is something wrong with your obdII connector or fuse.

Do you have check engine light on?Does the car have auto transmission?

Yes check engine light was on and just recently my ets light came on and etm failed but yes it is auto tranny

Checked fuses was thinking maybe corrosion on other end of harness wherever that may be?

Sometimes,when auto transmission set a code,it triggers check engine light and that code will not be visible on a regular engine code reader.Code is stored in tcm but that kind of code triggers check engine light.
Bad news are that you would need a special volvo scan tool for tcm codes or to visit a dealer.

I love working on cars so I really wouldn't mind spending the money on the tool and software I am new to the whole all electronic thing but I am eager to learn

Yes, but the rub on VIDA/DICE is that it is a one trick pony. It will only work on a 99+ Volvo.

The clone units are cheap enough that it is worth the investment. For the typical cost of a single scan at the dealer you can buy your own. IF you happen to need a software download the unit will work but the VIDA subscription plus the software download makes it uneconomical unless you have a bunch of stuff to program. The bootleg VIDA doesn't talk to the Volvo servers to buy the software hence you need to subscription for programming purposes. The diagnostics do all work though so it is an important tool in the tool chest.
