Hello All,
Yesterday I purchased a new/used computer to be dedicated to VADIS/DICE and even though I'm computer challenged, got some help from the seller to load the software that I got from Alibaba last November shortly after we got our 2007 V70. I believe he installed Win 8 with 3 GB Ram and 32 bit OS.
I'm dying to reset the transmission fluid counter (as well as see what VADIS can do, but I'm afraid I hit a snag. As was the case with other posters after loading DICE when it goes through its system checks it indicates that the "Self Diagnostic Connector is Not Attached" even though the plug is fully inserted into the OBD port. In reading some of the other posts, it appears that I may have purchased software doomed to fail. After spending nearly $300 to put VADIS together, I'm reluctant to shell out more dough, so here's my question. Can I just purchase the software disc that I see often selling on ebay, uninstall the existing VADIS and give it another try with a new disc and use the hardware provided with the initial purchase.
Problem is I am very computer challenged and when I start reading VM ware and Framework, I'm lost. Help please.

I've never tried to use a DICE with VADIS. VADIS was originally designed to use the VCT-2000 hardware and I don't really know how well it plays with DICE. As I recall the VCT-2000 was a serial device so you may want to try to have your USB port emulate COM-1 and see if they can talk to each other. I would tell you how to do that but I never used Windows 8 after the beta test (the beta version was pretty underwhelming).
The path of least resistance might be to get a copy of VIDA and load that on the computer. VIDA and VADIS can coexist on the same PC but it eats up a bunch of hard drive space. To install VIDA you typically need a double layer DVD player since most of the installations come on a double layer disk.

If you're mistaken and you are actually trying to use the Dice tool with VIDA and not VADIS... Then I think I know what your problem is. I too bought a laptop to only use with VIDA/Dice. I followed all instructions from a youtube video I found, but for some reason the Dice connector wasn't recognized by the computer. I found an article on one of the volvo forms that discussed uninstalling all the ".NET FRAMEWORK". I did this, and also disabled automatic software updates (who needs them if you're only using VIDA, right?), and haven't had a problem since!

Good Morning,
Besides being computer challenged, I'm also frustrated. I meant VIDA/Dice. Nothing to do with VADIS.

Good Afternoon,
I uninstalled two NET FRAMEWORK in the Microsoft system but still no go. I don't see any Vida updates icon or program to delete. I'm back to square one.
As I first indicated, it may be that the software that I have is faulty. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks,
Marty

Win 8 is the problem.
Vida only works on Win XP Pro and Win 7 Ultimate 32 & 64 bit.
You need to have the hard drive partitioned to handle both OS or scrub it and just load Win 7 Ultimate.

I believe you also need 4GB of Ram, at least 40GB of memory, Windows 7 Pro (what Volvo recommends), and INTERNET EXPLORER 8. IE8 was something that was causing me problems too. Also-- I have had to move the plug from USB port to USB port from time to time. (I'm a Mac guy-- these PCs throw me off-- I am okay with my PC at work, but I'm still not used to windows on a laptop).

In the Install/DVD/Vida_dvdheader/ folder you'll find a file called Compinfo
There is a heading in that file called [RAM]
Edit the two values to 1500 instead of 2700
This now lets you install with less than 2.7GB RAM.
Of course you can't edit a file on a DVD so you need to copy the DVD contents to an external drive or your own hard drive.
Also on Win 7 Home you can edit the registry to trick the install file into thinking that you have Win 7 Professional by using this link:
Yes it's in German and it's a reversal of what we want (Pro to Home) however it's a pretty visual thing and easy to grasp

One of the local Volvo repairers asked me to re-install Vida this week on his HP laptop.
Couln't get the install to start. Ended up scrubbing the hard drive to install Win 7 Home and Vida 2014A.
Then after all that I discovered that his Dice tool was actually faulty and can't be recognized by Windows any more. My own Dice works fine with his laptop. Mine was from eBay USA however I didn't write the seller's store name down.
His Dice has the four blue LEDs and he said he bought it from Mandy at Shenzen Zuess on my recommendation more than 12 months ago. Very disappointing to see.........
Lools like this forum needs to go shopping for a new recommended supplier.
Was ZLS Tech providing good units to some forum members here?? Any feedback appreciated.
