Is your V70 a turbo or NA? The owner's manual will tell you that 91 or above is the only fuel for the turbo but the NA should do fine on 89. The 89 is backed up by boatloads of experience on the forums. But with knock I would stick to the higher octane fuel at least until you figure it out.
