Hello, I have the new tranny here and will try the swap in a couple weeks.
Does any one has any idea of a good tutorial, with pictures etc for this?
I have been reading and keep running into the right position for the flywheel
and pressure plate, torque converter etc.

I seam to get that the fly wheel in some ignition systems has marks for some sensors.
but my car has the old points system so no sensor anywhere for crankshaft position.

Is still important to align things with the engine TDC? As a matter of balancing the elements or something? Or is it my install easier and I can use any position to hook the things up?

Any more graphical tutorial will be of great help, I am kinda novice in this part of my car.

I also read I could use this chance to change the crankshaft rear seal and the transmission seals as well, but by the description is seams complicated, my ESL doesn't help either when I read the tutorials with new names and it can get tricky, that's why the most graphic it gets the better.

Also I do not have a transmission jack but I do have a motorcycle jack available. Would this be alright or is it a specific transmission jack indispensable?

On the bright side this tranny came with the Ipd OD bypass conversion, so it would act as a 4 gears tranny with reducing to third by kick-down cable style, I was thinking on doing this job my self and found it done so I was very pleased.

Thanks a lot.

...slanted engine?

>fly wheel and pressure plate

Automatics have a flex-plate, and automatics have no pressure plate.

>torque converter

It has to be seated into transmission's input shaft, and held there. There is a technique to do this

>fly wheel in some ignition systems has marks for some sensors

Flex-plate alignment is not relevant in your situation since a point distributor is being used; further, only Volvos with LH 2.4 and Rex-I/Regina had a special flexplate for CPS sensor to read.

>graphical tutorial will be of great help

All torque specs will have to be gathered...

>I am kinda novice in this part of my car.

I highly suggest finding someone who has been down this road before.

>crankshaft rear seal and the transmission seals as well

Correct

>I do not have a transmission jack

I'd suggest getting a cherry picker, and pull the whole engine/transmission out as an unit.

I am doing it with a friend that is a mechanic , although he has never done volvos he has done other (Russian) cars back home and he has an automotive mechanic degree.

It is a slanted engine. B21A. matching it to a AW71 transmission.

Nice to know there is no need to locate marks in the flywheel, sorry about the flexplate mistake,
I don't have the mean$ of getting the engine and tranny out as a whole. I will do this the classic dirty way.

So the main thing to worry about install is the torque converter to be seated correctly into the shaft, seams not so hard.

Will let you know how did it go when done.

thanks again.

The engine will have to be held in place...see this thread: but I have no idea if this will work in your situation.

Torque Converter - I can't find a Volvo setup, but it is explained here for a Nissan 240SX/Altima 1993-1998 Repair Guide
