Hi. This isn't only my first post, but also my first Volvo and my first time working on a turbo engine. So armed with Howard Cheng's excellent tutorial I just dove in and took out my ETM and cleaned it. I know it's the original Magnetti and will need replacing very soon, (I got a p0121) off of a code reader. I reinstalled it just so I could get around town for a little while (I live in a very small town, so if it goes into limp mode I can just park it). Anyway, what really concerned me was the amount of oil I found before and after the ETM. I'm not getting an oil light while driving, and I have already order the replacement PCV kit from IPD. I guess my question is this. How likely is it that swapping out the PCV will solve this?

Very likely. Oil trap routes excess of air from crankcase and camshafts area to intake through PTC nipple just in front of the turbine (upstream of it), so if the trap can't separate oil from air, it all gets into intake.

Thanks. I'm hoping that no seals have gone on it yet. Should have the new PCV by next weekend and will try swapped it out as soon as I get it.

Make sure you clean the oil passage in the block too!

Will do. I believe that's in the tutorial I down loaded from the site. I was also wondering if I'm going to come across any huge differences on my 01 xc70 and the tutorials 03 v70?

Also. Since I'm posting. Is the replacement ETM from Xemodex still the go-to part? (I realize i'm dealing with a problem a lot of people probably consider old news here). Also is there another tutorial on replacing the PCV on here that I overlooked. The only one I could find was for a 2004 Xc90, and mines a 2001 xc70.

Same principle, slightly different engine and parts, you have a 2.4t and that's a 2.5t.
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

So no massive differences are going to sneak up me?
Any thoughts on who has the best replacement ETM?

Also. After I deal with the ETM and the PCV. The handling seems off. Do I have to replace the whole thing with a quick strut. (or can I just change the top bearing). If things look like this up front.
