1996 850R Doing PCV.. what is this hose?

Post by dmack87 »

Hello,

There is a hose that attached beneath the vac line tree on the manifold. it runs over by the battery and under the air filter housing, and then up to a fitting on the firewall near the brake lines.

Here is where it attaches on the manifold:

another view:

here it is running to a connector near the air box:

and here is the hose connecting to the light colored fitting on the firewall:

Questions:
What is this hose?
It is in pretty rough shape, should I replace it?
What is the purpose of the connector under the filter housing, and it is it needed?

Thanks!

Darren

Brake assist.
Mushy, or stiff pedal on braking lately?
Replace. Or cut the end of the hose for a clean connection.
After cutting an inch from the hose, I did replace the OEM spring clamp
After cutting an inch from the hose, I did replace the OEM spring clamp
After looking at my photo from that day, I should look a closer to see if I had put a clamp on that hose.
Brakes are working well for the past 6,000 miles or so?

I will check tomorrow. many miles to come this summer.

You are obviously dealing with a turbo manifold, seeing the third nipple. ( Giggity)

Safe to clamp them all. Spring clamps work, as the OEM type.

Replaced the hose up to the hose coupler under the air filter housing. Probably should replace the remaining stretch up behind the brake booster, but access looks like a nightmare. Maybe someday. Thanks for the hose ID.
