Coolant Temperature sensor breaking, s70 T5, 98

Post by fletch02536 »

I originally had read a check engine light for my coolant temperature sensor and replaced both the sensor and the thermostat. Every thing ran fine for the first two weeks, until the temperature sensor readings started getting lower and lower every time I start the car. I replaced the sensor agian after it caused a nother check engine light and everything was fine for about two weeks agian. The heat blows the temperature its supposed to, but of course the car starts rough. I have replaced it agian, but this time I took out the stock plastic harness (the wires were ripping out of the harness and hard wired the sensor to the wires where the plastic harness was with butt connectors. It was fine for about three weeks till agian, slowly, every time i start the car the temperature starts to go down. The fan runs all the time when the check engine light comes on and the code it has been reading has been "Engine coolant temp CKT range/perf"

Any one got any Ideas as to where to go next??

Check your wiring to the sensor...seems that the end that you modified isn't the only problem...from what you've posted, it sounds like you've got a short in that wire somewhere.

Had the same problem. Make sure you put the ECT connector back on the little bracket that it came off of, because if you let the wire dangle the engine and the road vibration will cause a little wiggle inside the plug (connector). The fan runs because it is getting a weak signal from your ECT. You might have to zipp tie the connector together after you put some connector cleaner inside. It worked for me try it.
